Alex is a young man who actually uses his own health insurance plan on a monthly basis.

Alex was born with a genetic bleeding disorder called hemophilia – which means that his blood doesn’t clot properly. This condition has required him to self infuse medicine intravenously every other day since childhood.

Alex lives an active and healthy lifestyle, but his medical bills reach over $1 million each year due to the cost of his medicine. Through his personal experience, he’s learned how to navigate the confusing world of insurance and breaks it down into simple building blocks for anyone to understand.

Alex has always had an interest in science and healthcare. While studying at the University of Portland, he worked on the hospital floors of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), assisting physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Following his undergraduate studies, Alex chose to help clients with chronic health conditions manage their medicine and medical supplies at a speciality infusion pharmacy. For over 17 years Alex has also volunteered as a counselor of the Hemophilia Foundation of Oregon’s annual summer camp for children with bleeding disorders – including two years as vice president of the board of directors.

Alex makes it a priority to live life! He spends time with his wife and sons doing a variety of activities – like daily walks in their neighborhood with their Rhodesian Ridgeback. Around town, you can often find them at the Boise Farmers Market, Hyde Park, or Camel’s Back Park. Alex and his family also love to explore outside of Idaho and travel to a new country each year.
